Is dance team competition a sport? Why do newspapers treat it like a fluff article in the local section twice a season?

It's not thought of as a "guy" sport which is what our society gears towards! I'm a dancer and have a hard time classifying it as a sport because there is so much artistry involved in it. Not to say that is isn't a sport or hard work - but it's not just strictly a sport and nothing else.

I would like to see the local papers and school administrators have a little more respect for these events. After going to highschool football & basketball games this past year, there is no comparison in the fan turnout at a dance competition.

a dance competiton to me is a sporting event. because us dancers work hard and sweat just like any other person who is on a sports team does, i would say that a dance competiton is a sport.
